Kudos A&M!

The ultra-right-wing Young Conservative of Texas (YCT), who in the past have been nearly banned from A&M for promoting racism and have dealt with accusations of voter fraud and denouncements from even the Texas A&M Republicans, tried to continue to spread their hate today with an “Anti-Obama Carnival” that had activities such as throw eggs at a racist caricature of Barack Obama and try to throw rings around the neck of caricatures of Obama and Hillary Clinton. Despite the Conservative leanings of the Texas A&M student body a bi-partisan group of students protested the hate driven protest until the YCT finally took down the offense “carnival games”. The University also spoke out in a voice of clarity, equality, and the true Aggie spirit by affirming the right of all students to voice civilized opinions while decrying the disgraceful actions of the YCT. This is what outsiders do not understand about A&M, is that while it may be a conservative student body, they mostly believe in the founding principals of this nation and place civility and honor above petty political gain. This is not the first time the A&M student body united across platforms against hate mongers. In 2001, Justice for All, an anti-abortion group set up giant displays of aborted fetuses at the MSC. The student protest to the signs, despite A&Ms strong pro-life movement, led the University to order the group to remove the displays. This is the A&M I am proud of. The A&M where we can put politics aside and unite as a community of peers and our political difference are handled as honorable patriots should handle them.
