breakdowns, dolphins, and a birthday
Well I missed a couple of days. The MySQL server decided to take away all of my privledges and my brother was being impossible to contact so he could fix it. I finally got him on the phone, got his root password from him, and fixed the server myself. So I can write again. Alot has happened since last Wednesday. I had a minor surgery on Thursday and missed two days of work and thus two days of work. The the weekend hit and me, Dorre, and the Puppies (my Linguistics professor said that the “You and I” convention is something that was made up by writers of grammar books so English would conform to the Latin they perferred and is thus artificial and unnecessary.) went to Austin for the Memorial Day weekend and her upcoming birthday tomorrow. Cranberry as usual was a brat and not only did she swim in their nearly empty pool several times, but she convinced Wicket to follow. Then Cranberry went through a missing board in the fence and took a romp in the field next to Dorre’s parents house. From that point on she stayed tied up, but she still managed to pry off a board on the fence and chew it to pieces. Besides the gorging that always accompanies a celebration, we went to a mall and I got Dorre a Build-A-Bear Border Collie and Puppy. The adult she named Cosmo and the puppy is Jasper. After returning home, it was time for Summer I to begin and much to my dismay MySQL, as aforementioned, had gone insane. My Linguistics class though was fascinating and it looks as if I will enjoy it. Of the many things, mostly tid-bits, we learned in the first class we learned that Dolphins are the closest non-human animals to having a language. Dolphins and Humans share a charecterisitic that no other animal has. They can break down an item of meaning into smaller meanings. In human languages this is evident from sentances down to conjugating a verb. In dolphins this was discovered by analyizing the “signature whistle” the dolphins use to uniquely identifing theirself. The whistle has two parts, almost a first and last name, one part is taking from the Mother’s whistle and the second part is a unique addition. My speech class is very typical, the instructor seems to be a nice guy, but I am suspicious that his previous life in Abilene will make him a typical bible belt type and that I may end up butting heads in my speeches. Well, otherwise, I am rethinking my “flower” version of the site and considering using a theme based on an abacus. Additionally, I am considering a transition from b2 to wordpress for my blog engine. If anyone has any comments or suggestions about my site design or the b2 vs wordpress issue please put in a comment.
